When Jesus tells his followers to follow him, because his yoke is easy and his burden is light, he wasn't telling them that discipleship would make life easier. He was pointing out the different ways that the world places heavy burdens and weights upon people, especially those who are already marginalized by systems of poverty, racism, and other oppressions. By following Jesus, we join our power together to support one another and also to change the world so that these burdens are overthrown.
