zoom circle to begin June 8!
How is your "Sum of Us" reading coming along? If you are able to mostly focus on Intro, Ch.1, and Ch. 2 for 6/8 that will be great! Up through page 50, puts you a little into Ch. 3. If you are soaking up McGhee's stories with each chapter start, you may already be cruising!
Perhaps some of you got to hear her today in fireside chat @ Children's Alliance!
See below for more, and let me know any questions! Zoom tomorrow is the same as worship. Cheat Sheet will come by email.

Hi Everyone,
How is it going with getting your books?
Here is a Ted talk from Heather McGhee that is two years back, but still gives a power packed glimpse toward the book!
Here is a brief Discussion Guide you can get a look at as well.
Also, did you want to register for Tuesday June 7 virtual fireside chat with Heather McGhee, in support of the Children's Alliance? (See below. Free registration by Monday June 6.)
For June 8: 6:30-7:30 pm zoom circle:
This new book circle for summer months will include some new folks, & some different time zone participants. Wed. June 8: 6:30-7:30 pm Cheat Sheet comes out that day by email (or it is the same one you use for worship Sundays.)
In our survey form:
Two hoped we could read and discuss our whole book. But then almost 50% liked about 40 pages reading load per session. And almost 50% liked 60-75 pages/circle eve.
So, I invite your thinking about this; we can firm on June 8:
Book circle is planned for Monthly: 2nd Wed. of each month: 4th Wednesdays these warmer seasons are in person @ farmers market to picnic, for those local.
The Sum of Us (355 pgs.) we could aim for:
June 8: p. 1-50.
July 13: p. 50-100.
August 10: p. 100-150.
September 14: p. 150-200.
October 12: p. 200-250.
November 9: p. 250-300.
December 14: p. 300-355.
We will also be using Rev. Dr. William Barber's short book sermon We Are Called to Be a Movement.
We could say, jump back up to 2nd & 4th later in fall, once its too chilly for picnics?
Or how bout you think what day or time you might want to add more book circling up, if more frequently?
The 2nd Wed. of month @ 50 pages/ month= makes our steady work, lets update our name from the Summer circle, to the "Summer + Fall.
For folks pondering joining, we often refresh for ourselves:
Couple Priorities:
Study leads to action.
Book circle is one focus area among other advocacy groups @ Keystone.
That Book circle be community building. (Ie: rich discussion, hearing each other's stories & histories, that we know we are Christian by our love for one another.)
These are some of our guides in our faith formation study.
See you this Wednesday June 8 eve!
+ If you can use a little centering time beforehand, come into zoom for 6-6:30 pm contemplative Lectio Divina practice (we will use the next Sunday scripture.)
+ If you roll right on to zoom for book circle, feel free to do whatever you need (we always understand life happens, and some will occasionally need a moment with video off for dinner or kids or housemates or finish a chore, etc in backdrop!)
Thank you again for all the responses to form!
Blessings
Lauren
PS Also check out Edie Rasell’s new book, The Way of Abundance: Economic Justice in Scripture and Society.
Book Study
Every 2nd Wed., 6:30-7:30pm
In Keystone Zoom space
Our current book circle has been shopping around proposals for our next study. Thank you for everyone's votes! If you can't seem to get your own books asap, contact Pastor Lauren.
We had 2 big margin winners for the tie:
We are Called to be a Movement- Rev Dr William J. Barber
and
The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together- Heather McGhee
Annnnd a great close 3rd cluster of votes:
This Is an Uprising: How Nonviolent Revolt is Shaping the 21st Century- Engler & Engler.
So! Since the Barber book is short, as it is a sermon, go ahead and grab that, if you are able, and we will draw upon it over these next months ahead. Grab yourself a quick copy of Heather McGhee's The Sum of Us, to start reading for June 8!
(+You know you are going to want to add This is An Uprising to your beach reading list!)
Our great luck is we also get to catch Heather McGhee on Tuesday June 7 at 12 Noon (PST) or the recording afterwards. Thanks to Barb (Take 5 organizer) and the Children's Alliance (many of you remember that is where Amber served her advocacy placement during her second year of Justice Leadership Program, with Keystone!) Registration link is here in your fresh new edition of the Keystone Take 5 from Barb this week, re-started (please check your spam folder if you did not get it yesterday? or click the link in the box farther below!)
The new book circle will meet next week on Wed. June 8 at 6:30-7:30 pm- feel free to invite others, and forward them this newsletter, and the 6/8 Cheat Sheet with zoom link, that comes out on the day-of.
